Description

The Johnson L1600, L2200 and L4000 Bilge Pumps are heavy-duty submersible pumps designed for marine bilge pumping and other compatible water-transfer applications. Available in 12V and 24V DC versions, the range provides nominal capacities from 1600 to 4000 GPH.

Built with corrosion-resistant thermoplastic housings, stainless steel shafts and liquid-cooled motors, these pumps are suited to fishing boats, yachts, commercial vessels and general onboard water-moving applications.

Johnson L1600 / L2200 / L4000 Bilge Pumps

The Johnson L-Series bilge pumps are designed for reliable submerged operation in marine environments. The range includes three sizes to suit different flow requirements, from the compact L1600 through to the high-capacity L4000.

12V & 24V Bilge Pump Options

All three models are available in 12V and 24V versions, allowing the pump to be matched to common marine electrical systems.

Always select the correct voltage for the vessel or installation and ensure wiring, fuse protection and switching equipment are appropriately sized for the pump current draw.

Actual Flow Under Head

Nominal GPH ratings are useful for comparing pump sizes, but actual flow reduces as discharge head and hose resistance increase.

The supplied flow figures at approximately 1m discharge head are:

  • L1600: 1550 GPH
  • L2200: 1900 GPH
  • L4000: 2600 GPH

Heavy-Duty Motor Construction

The pumps use liquid-cooled, 12-pole electric motors with double ball bearings for smooth operation and durability in submerged service.

The motor shaft is manufactured from stainless steel, while the main wetted components are made from high-impact, non-corrosive thermoplastic.

Shaft Seal Design

The L1600 uses a lip seal arrangement.

The L2200 and L4000 use mechanical shaft seals, providing a serviceable sealing arrangement between the motor and pump section.

Mounting & Installation

The pumps use a removable mounting base / inlet screen to simplify installation and servicing.

Do not assume direct compatibility with another manufacturer's mounting footprint. Check the mounting dimensions, hose connection size and available installation space before replacing an existing bilge pump.

Optional Ultima Automatic Bilge Switch

The optional Ultima Switch can be used to provide automatic pump operation as the water level rises and falls.

The switch uses sealed solid-state sensing technology with no exposed sensing contacts and no mercury. It is rated for compatible pumps drawing up to 20A at 12V or 24V.

Confirm the switch current rating, wiring arrangement and fuse protection are suitable for the selected pump before installation.

Installation Considerations

Use suitably sized marine-grade wiring and circuit protection for the selected pump. Excessive voltage drop can reduce pump performance and increase electrical load.

Keep discharge hose runs as short and direct as practical and avoid unnecessary restrictions, sharp bends or undersized hose, as these can significantly reduce flow.

Inspect the bilge pump, strainer, hose, electrical connections and automatic switch regularly and keep the inlet clear of debris.
