Description
The Paddock Plug Lawn Aerator is a heavy-duty tow-behind coring aerator designed to reduce soil compaction and improve access to air, water and nutrients at the grass root zone. With a 48" / 122cm working width, 32 replaceable coring points and up to 76mm maximum coring depth, it is ideal for lawns, acreage, landscaping and property maintenance.
Tow the aerator behind a ride-on mower, quad bike or ATV and add ballast to the top tray when extra penetration is required. The simple ground-driven design requires no engine, PTO or electrical connection.

Paddock Tow Behind Plug Lawn Aerator
Reduce Soil Compaction & Improve Root-Zone Access
Regular lawn aeration helps reduce soil compaction and creates channels through the surface so air, water and nutrients can move deeper into the root zone.
The Paddock Plug Aerator removes small cores from the lawn rather than simply piercing the surface, making it suitable for compacted turf, heavily trafficked lawns and broader lawn renovation programs.
48" / 122cm Working Width
The wide 122cm aerating width allows larger areas to be covered efficiently behind a ride-on mower, quad bike or ATV.
This makes the unit suitable for:
- Residential lawns
- Large gardens
- Acreage
- Landscaping
- Farm properties
- Sports turf and open grassed areas
32 Replaceable Coring Points
The aerator uses 32 replaceable coring points positioned across the working width.
As the unit is towed, the coring points penetrate the turf and remove small plugs of soil. This helps open compacted ground and can support stronger root development when combined with appropriate watering, fertilising and lawn maintenance.
Up to 76mm Coring Depth
Maximum coring depth is approximately 76mm / 3", depending on soil condition, moisture content, ballast and operating conditions.
Best penetration is generally achieved when the soil is moist but not saturated.
Ballast Tray for Additional Penetration
The top tray can carry up to 60kg of additional ballast to increase downward force on the coring points where required.
Suitable ballast may include securely positioned bags of sand, soil or other stable weights.
Always distribute additional weight evenly and remain within the stated tray capacity.
Simple Tow-Behind Operation
The aerator uses a standard clevis hitch with pin, making it suitable for many ride-on mowers, quad bikes and ATVs.
The unit is entirely ground driven and requires no engine, PTO shaft, battery or electrical connection.
How to Use the Plug Aerator
For best results:
- Mow the lawn before aerating
- Remove excessive grass clippings and debris
- Aerate after light rain or watering when the soil is moist
- Add ballast if additional penetration is required
- Lower the coring points before beginning the working pass
- Tow at a slow, steady speed
- Travel in straight lines where possible
- Avoid sharp turns while the coring points are engaged in the soil
- Make additional passes over heavily compacted areas if required
