Description
The Paddock Tow Behind Flail Mower is built for maintaining paddocks, acreage, rough grass and overgrown areas where a conventional ride-on mower or finishing mower may struggle. Powered by its own petrol engine, it requires no PTO connection and can be towed behind a wide range of suitable vehicles including quad bikes, ATVs, tractors and farm utilities.
Available in 45" (1150mm) and 60" (1530mm) cutting widths, the range includes a 13.5hp Briggs & Stratton model and an extra heavy-duty 24hp Loncin model. Both use robust hammer-style flail blades designed for demanding mowing and mulching applications.

Paddock Tow Behind Flail Mowers – 45" & 60"
Heavy-Duty Flail Mowing Without a PTO
The Paddock Tow Behind Flail Mower provides a practical solution for mowing larger rural and commercial areas without the need for a PTO-equipped tractor. Each mower is powered by its own petrol engine, so the towing vehicle only needs to pull the mower.
This makes the range suitable for use with compatible quad bikes, ATVs, tractors, side-by-sides and farm utilities.
Flail mowers are particularly useful for rougher areas where durability and vegetation control are more important than the fine finish expected from a conventional lawn mower.
45" or 60" – Choose the Right Model
Two models are available to suit different property sizes and mowing requirements:
- SPTBFM03 – 45" / 1150mm: powered by a 13.5hp Briggs & Stratton engine with 28 heavy-duty hammer blades.
- SPTBFM04 – 60" / 1530mm: powered by a 24hp Loncin engine with 24 extreme-duty hammer blades and heavier overall construction.
The 45" model is well suited to general farm and acreage maintenance, while the 60" model provides greater cutting width and engine power for larger areas and more demanding workloads.

Heavy-Duty Hammer Flail Cutting System
Unlike a conventional mower using one or two large horizontal blades, a flail mower uses multiple vertically rotating cutting tools mounted along a horizontal rotor.
This design provides many cutting points across the full width of the machine and allows the mower to handle tougher mowing conditions such as long grass, heavier vegetation and light organic debris.
The Paddock models use heavy-duty hammer-style flails, which are individually replaceable when worn.

Self-Powered Petrol Engine
Both models have their own 4-stroke petrol engine, meaning no PTO shaft is required from the towing vehicle.
The SPTBFM03 uses a 13.5hp Briggs & Stratton engine with electric key start and recoil backup start.
The larger SPTBFM04 uses a 24hp Loncin 4-stroke engine with electric start and a substantially larger 24L fuel tank for extended operation across larger areas.
Adjustable Cutting Height
Cutting height is manually adjustable to suit different mowing conditions:
- SPTBFM03: approximately 23–60mm
- SPTBFM04: approximately 20–60mm
Actual cutting performance will vary depending on vegetation density, ground conditions, towing speed and mower setup.
Rear Roller & Side Skids
The mower incorporates a rear roller to help support the cutting deck and follow variations in ground level. Side skids provide additional protection when travelling over uneven areas, ruts and rough terrain.
On the 45" model, the skid and roller height can also be adjusted as part of the mower setup.
Flexible Wheel Configuration – 45" Model
The SPTBFM03 45" model offers two wheel configurations:
- Wheels mounted beside the mower
- Wheels trailing behind the mower
Moving the wheels to the rear allows the cutting deck to operate closer to fences, tanks, sheds, posts and other obstacles.
Changing between configurations takes approximately 20 minutes.

50mm Tow Ball Connection
Both flail mowers use a standard 50mm / 2" tow-ball hitch. The drawbar can pivot vertically to accommodate different tow-ball heights and towing vehicles.
Due to the weight of these machines, the tow connection should not be modified to a lighter-duty clevis or pin-style arrangement unless specifically engineered and approved for the application.
Heavy-Duty Construction
The mower body and frame are manufactured from heavy-duty steel with a durable powder-coated finish. Wear and pivot points are designed for regular maintenance, with grease points provided where required.
The cutting system uses replaceable hammer blades, while front stone guards help reduce the risk of debris being projected forward during operation.
SPTBFM04 – Extra Heavy-Duty 60" Model
The SPTBFM04 is the larger and more powerful mower in the Paddock tow-behind range. It combines a 1530mm cutting width with a 24hp Loncin commercial 4-stroke engine and heavier cutting components.
The larger model also features a 24L fuel tank, manual jacking-screw height adjustment and 24 extreme-duty hammer blades for demanding mowing applications.

Assembly & Pre-Start
The tow hitch and height-adjustment components require assembly on arrival.
Important: The engines are transported with only sufficient oil for storage and protection. Engine oil must be checked and filled to the correct level before starting. Refer to the supplied engine and mower manuals before first use.
Always inspect the mowing area for rocks, wire, branches and other hazards before operation. Confirm the towing vehicle is suitable for the mower's weight and tow-ball load, and operate at a speed appropriate for the terrain and vegetation conditions.
