Cold-water models suit general dirt, mud, dust and routine property cleaning. Hot-water machines are more effective on grease, oil, animal fats and workshop contamination because heat helps break down oily residues. The right choice depends on the surface, soil type, cleaning frequency, available power or fuel and whether detergent will also be used.
Pressure provides the impact needed to loosen contamination, while flow carries the loosened material away and determines rinsing speed. High pressure alone does not guarantee faster cleaning. Match both pressure and litres per minute to the task, accessory and surface, and use the correct nozzle size so the pump operates within its designed range.
Yes. Excessive pressure, a narrow nozzle or working too close can etch concrete, strip paint, damage timber, cut seals and force water into bearings or electrical components. Begin with a wider fan pattern at a safe distance and test an inconspicuous area. Avoid directing the jet at people, animals, tyres, power equipment or fragile surfaces.
The supply must deliver at least the flow required by the machine without excessive restriction. Use a clean water source, an adequately sized hose and a clear inlet filter. Insufficient supply can cause cavitation, pulsing and pump damage. Some machines can draw from a tank, but suction lift and priming limits must be followed exactly.
Check pump and engine oil where applicable, clean inlet filters, inspect hoses, nozzles, guns and fittings, and flush detergent systems after use. Hot-water units also require burner, fuel filter, coil and soot maintenance. Protect all machines from freezing, relieve pressure before storage and follow the service intervals stated for the specific model.
