Air Driven Double Diaphragm Pump
Air operated diaphragm pumps are widely used for transferring liquids where reliability, chemical compatibility and simple flow control are important. Connect the pump to a suitable compressed air supply and regulate the inlet air pressure and flow to control pump performance.
Unlike many electrically driven pumps, an air diaphragm pump can safely stop against a closed discharge or dead-head condition. As discharge pressure approaches the supplied air pressure, the pump slows and stops rather than continuing to run against the restriction. When the discharge is opened, pumping resumes.
This makes air operated diaphragm pumps particularly useful in dispensing, transfer and process applications where fluid demand regularly starts and stops.
Polypropylene Body with Viton Diaphragms
These pumps use polypropylene bodies with wetted components incorporating Viton, CPP, PTFE and stainless steel. This combination provides compatibility with a broad range of fluids and chemical solutions.
Typical compatible applications include:
- Diesel transfer
- Lubricating and motor oils
- Hydraulic oils
- Vegetable oils
- Water
- AdBlue® / AUS 32 / Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
- Many compatible chemical solutions
Important: Chemical compatibility varies with fluid concentration, temperature and operating conditions. Always confirm compatibility with all wetted materials before ordering or operating the pump.
Petrol Note: While the pump materials may be chemically compatible with petrol, these pumps are not certified for petrol transfer and Scintex does not recommend them for this application.
Self-Priming Pneumatic Pump Design
The air operated double diaphragm design provides strong suction performance and self-priming capability while allowing the pump to handle fluids containing small suspended solids. Maximum allowable solid size varies depending on the selected pump model.
The simple bolted construction also makes servicing straightforward. The air distribution system is externally serviceable and replacement service kits are available for ongoing maintenance.
Common Applications
- Chemical transfer and dispensing
- Diesel and oil transfer
- AdBlue® and AUS 32 transfer
- Workshop and industrial fluid transfer
- Agricultural applications
- Manufacturing and process applications
- Water transfer
- Fluid transfer where electrical pumps are undesirable

Which Size Diaphragm Pump Should I Choose?
SDP60LPM - up to 60 L/min:
Compact option suited to lower-flow fluid transfer, dispensing and chemical handling applications. Features 3/4" BSP fluid connections.
SDP90LPM - up to 90 L/min:
Higher-flow option with 1" BSP connections, suitable for general industrial, workshop, agricultural and chemical transfer applications.
SBK50PF - up to 240 L/min:
Large-capacity model designed for bulk fluid transfer. Features 2" ANSI connections with BSP threaded adapters and can handle suspended solids up to 8mm.
Choosing an Air Compressor
The performance of an air operated diaphragm pump depends heavily on the available air pressure and air flow. A compressor must be capable of supplying sufficient air volume at the required operating pressure to achieve the desired pump flow rate.
Always operate the pump through a suitable air pressure regulator so the inlet pressure and pump performance can be controlled. Do not exceed the maximum rated air inlet pressure of 100 PSI / 6.9 bar.
The pumps use a 1/4" air inlet connection. The compressor itself should be selected based on the required pump performance and air consumption rather than connection size alone.
Air Consumption Data
60 L/min Model - Refer to the 60 L/min Air Consumption Curve.
90 L/min Model - Refer to the 90 L/min Air Consumption Curve.
240 L/min Model - Maximum air consumption: 900 L/min.
Service Kits & Spare Parts
Scintex can also supply service kits for these diaphragm pumps. Kits include replacement Viton diaphragms along with other common wear components, helping extend the service life of the pump and simplify ongoing maintenance.
