Description

The Cattle Curtain is a non mechanical device for applying insecticide to livestock. Ideal for controlling buffalo fly in cattle and other animals. Perfect for farms of all sizes, the cattle curtain is a well proven tool that requires low maintenance and attention.

Made In the USA - Cattle Curtain

1.2m Cattle Back Rub

The wicking action of the cattle curtain ensures the hanging components are always wet and effective in transferring insecticides to your animals. The large reservoir means the unit requires little attention and infrequent refilling.

  • Low complexity ensures high reliability
  • Treats cattle of all sizes and heights
  • Treats the entire beast, not just the back
  • Large reservoir ensures infrequent refills
  • Can be used with a range of insecticides and oils
  • Ideal width of most access ways
  • Simple to install
  • Adjustment valve allows speed of wicking action to be controlled
Cattle Rub Function

The cattle curtain works by hanging the unit above a access way in which your cattle walk. The unit is filled with ~12 L of a blended solution, typically a low viscosity oil such as hydraulic oil or mineral oil and a insecticide of your choosing.

Each Cattle Curtain has 14 hanging wicks which are impregnated with the blended solution from the overhead reservoir. Cattle from cows, steers, calves to bulls are easily and effectively treated each time they pass through the access way. Unlike other rubs on the market, the Cattle Curtain will treat animals of all heights including calves and will treat the face, body and legs, not just the back region.

The Cattle Curtain can also be set up to treat horses, donkeys, mules and should be set at a higher elevation in these applications. Care does need to be taken if these animals are saddled and ridden as the oils can build up heat under the saddle. If your animals are hesitating when you initially set up the Cattle Curtain, some of the hanging wicks can be lifted and wrapped out of the way until your animals form familiarity.

Another great advantage to the Cattle Curtain is that it won't be jumped or torn down and this combined with the large reservoir means maintenance is extremely low.

Cattle Curtain Setup

The reservoir contains a single flow adjustment valve which controls the rate at which the solution wicks. This is a set and forget valve and should only need adjustment if you change the blended oil solution. If you find your wicks are dripping, simply close the valve a little, alternatively if the wicks are dry, open the valve a little.

The Cattle Curtain reservoir holds 3 gallons of solution, ~12 L. The time between refills depends solely on your number of cattle and the number of passes they perform. It is suggested you hang the Cattle Curtain on a access way which might lead to water or food and this will ensure transfers on a regular basis.

Diesel is not a suitable oil to use in the Cattle Curtain as it is too thin and will not wick at a controllable rate. Most low viscosity oils are suitable.

There are hundreds of insecticides on the market each with their own advantages and target pest specifies. We recommended you consult your local farm supplies store for a insecticide to suit your requirements. Follow application rates provided with the chosen insecticide.

The wicks used are long lasting however can be simply replaced after several seasons if desired.

The Cattle Curtain is easily suspended from an overhead gate or access way frame. Typical mounting height should see the reservoir 1.5-1.6m from grade. The reservoir includes mounting eyelets at each end which makes attaching a chain or rope simple for hanging. Simplicity is the key to the Cattle Curtains success.

Cattle Curtain a winner for me

Just got my cattle curtain going for the start of the buffalo fly season. It works brilliantly for my droughtmaster breeding herd. I have previously used tags (expensive and hard work) and direct spraying (doesn't last long). This device is simple but quality build. No problem getting the cattle to use it.
