Description

Sherpa 4x4 Winch Isolation Switches provide a simple and effective way to completely disconnect power to your winch when it is not in use. This helps prevent accidental or unauthorised winch operation and adds an important layer of protection to any 4WD or recovery setup.

Two heavy-duty switch options are available, both suitable for 6-48V DC systems and supplied with mounting hardware for straightforward installation.

Sherpa 4x4 Winch Battery Isolation Switches

  • Completely isolates winch power when not in use
  • Helps prevent accidental or unauthorised winch activation
  • Reduces the risk of operation from a control box fault or remote input
  • Suitable for 6-48V DC systems
  • Heavy-duty continuous current ratings
  • High short-duration surge capacity
  • Supplied with mounting bracket and hardware
  • Quick and simple to install

Why Fit a Winch Isolation Switch?

A winch is permanently connected to a high-current battery supply unless a suitable isolation device is fitted. Installing an isolation switch allows the winch circuit to be physically disconnected when the winch is not required.

This is a useful safety and security feature because it can help prevent:

  • Accidental winch activation
  • Unauthorised operation via the control box or wireless remote
  • Operation caused by an electrical fault
  • Unwanted current flow during vehicle servicing or maintenance

Heavy-Duty Current Capacity

Both Sherpa isolation switches are designed for the high current demands associated with electric recovery winches.

The SWIS500A is rated to 500A continuous, while the larger SWIS500B is rated to 600A continuous. Both also provide substantially higher short-duration surge ratings for demanding winch loads.

Installation

The isolation switch should be installed in the main positive power feed to the winch so power can be completely disconnected when required.

Use appropriately sized high-current cable, terminals and protective hardware suitable for the winch and electrical system.

Important: For dual-motor or dual-battery winch setups, two isolation switches may be required depending on how the electrical system is configured.

One of the few Isolators on the market that can handle the current.

Most cheap isolators are only rated for 300A.
These are rated all the way up to 500A continuous. The winch motor will overheat before this isolator fails.
Just note that the studs are 12mm, so you will need to source the correct cable lugs, for instance, 35mmˆ2-12 lugs to suit 2B&S Cable are difficult to find at most automotive retailers.
