Biodiesel Heaters

To make biodiesel using a base catalysed reaction it is necessary to heat the oil to around 55oC. Scintex offers several options for doing this. Our biodiesel kits incorporate an immersion heater with digital thermostat. This is the most effective means of heating as the heat transfer to the oils very efficient. Drum heaters can be used to heat oil in 44 gallon drums but this is very energy intensive you might struggle to get the oil to temperature. When running biodiesel of biofuels in your vehicle such as SVO it may be necessary in colder climates to heat the fuel. A fuel filter heater will prevent coagulation in the fuel filter. Fuel tank stick on heat pads will bring the fuel temperature up by several degrees and help fuel flows. For faster heating and for getting the oil to higher temperatures (note oil will flow like diesel at 80oC) we recommend a heat exchanger that transfers heat from your coolant to your SVO.
Biodiesel heaters help maintain fuel flow by reducing wax formation and improving cold-weather performance.
Heating is beneficial where low temperatures may cause biodiesel to gel or become difficult to pump.
Many heaters are suitable for both biodiesel and diesel, provided they are designed for the application.
Select a heater based on flow rate, fuel type, voltage and installation requirements.
Maintaining the correct fuel temperature improves pumping efficiency without overheating the fuel.
