Paddock Tow Behind Lawn Spike Aerator
36" & 60" Water-Filled Drum Aerators
The Paddock Lawn Spike Aerator provides a simple way to aerate larger lawns, acreage and landscaped areas using equipment you may already own. Connect it behind a suitable ride-on mower, quad bike or ATV and the rotating drum drives the spikes into the ground as you tow.
With no engine, PTO, hydraulics or electrical connection required, operation is simple and maintenance requirements are minimal.
Why Aerate Your Lawn?
Regular traffic from vehicles, mowing equipment, people and animals can gradually compact soil. Compacted ground can restrict the movement of air, water and nutrients into the soil and towards the grass root zone.
Spike aeration creates openings in the surface, helping water and nutrients penetrate the ground and providing an easy method of maintaining larger grassed areas.
Aeration can be particularly useful as part of a broader lawn or pasture maintenance program before applications such as fertilising, watering or overseeding.
Water-Filled Drum for Increased Penetration
A key feature of the Paddock aerator is its large water-fillable steel drum. Adding water increases the operating weight of the aerator, helping push the spikes into firmer and more compacted ground.
- 36" SRSA36: 90L water capacity
- 60" SRSA60: 120L water capacity
When the job is finished, the water can be drained to reduce the weight of the unit for handling and storage.
Up to 70mm Aeration Depth
The steel spikes provide a maximum aeration depth of approximately 70mm. Actual penetration will depend on factors including soil type, moisture content, compaction, drum weight and operating conditions.
For harder ground, filling the drum increases downward pressure and can improve spike penetration.
Choose 36" or 60" Working Width
Two sizes are available to suit different properties and towing vehicles:
- SRSA36 – 36" / 91cm: Compact model with 78 spikes and a 90L water-filled drum.
- SRSA60 – 60" / 150cm: Larger model with 126 spikes and a 120L water-filled drum for faster coverage of larger areas.
The 36" model is ideal where manoeuvrability and access are important, while the wider 60" model allows larger lawns and open areas to be covered more efficiently.
Heavy-Duty Steel Construction
The aerator is manufactured from heavy-duty steel with a black powder-coated finish for outdoor use. The simple ground-driven design eliminates the need for a separate engine or complicated drive system.
The drum carries multiple steel spikes around its circumference, providing consistent aeration as the unit rolls across the ground.
Simple Tow-Behind Operation
The aerator uses a clevis-style hitch with pin for straightforward connection to a suitable towing vehicle.
It can be used behind compatible:
- Ride-on lawn mowers
- Quad bikes
- ATVs
- Side-by-side utility vehicles
- Other suitable property vehicles
Always confirm the towing capacity and hitch compatibility of the vehicle being used, particularly when operating the aerator with the drum filled with water.
Ideal Applications
The Paddock Spike Aerator is well suited to maintaining larger grassed and landscaped areas including:
- Residential lawns
- Acreage properties
- Large gardens
- Sports and recreation areas
- Golf courses
- Landscaped grounds
- Farm and rural properties

Assembly
The Paddock Lawn Aerator is supplied partially assembled and requires approximately 15 minutes of assembly before use. Check all fasteners, spikes and hitch components before operation.
Important: Maximum spike penetration will vary with soil conditions. For improved results on hard or compacted ground, aerate when the soil contains sufficient moisture for the spikes to penetrate effectively without being excessively wet or boggy.
