Professional Lawn Dethatching

The Paddock™ lawn dethatcher, also known as a verticutter, scarifier or power rake, is designed to mechanically remove the layer of dead grass, stems, roots and organic material that can accumulate between the green lawn and soil surface.

The powerful Honda engine drives a 22" / 560mm wide tine assembly, allowing large lawn areas to be processed efficiently. Working depth can be continuously adjusted to suit different lawn types, conditions and levels of thatch build-up.

This makes the machine equally useful for periodic lawn maintenance and more intensive lawn renovation work.

Genuine Honda GX160 Engine

At the heart of the machine is the proven Honda GX160 commercial 4-stroke petrol engine. Honda GX engines are widely used across professional landscaping, construction and hire equipment due to their reliability, straightforward servicing and extensive parts support.

The GX160 produces 3.6kW / 4.8HP at 3,600rpm and uses a simple recoil pull-start system. Engine servicing can be performed through Honda service agents and general outdoor power equipment workshops throughout Australia.

Adjustable Dethatching Depth

Different lawns require different levels of dethatching. Rather than limiting the operator to a small number of fixed height settings, the Paddock dethatcher provides continuous height adjustment.

This allows the working depth to be finely adjusted for the lawn condition and intended result. The machine is capable of working to depths of up to 40mm when conditions and application require it.

Smooth Tine Engagement

The vertical tines are belt driven through an automatic centrifugal clutch system. Tine operation is controlled using a conveniently positioned hand lever, providing smooth engagement and straightforward operation.

The machine runs on four independently rotating wheels, making it easier to manoeuvre around lawn areas. Solid puncture-proof rubber tyres eliminate the inconvenience of flat tyres, while the quick-fold handle design simplifies transport and storage.

Heavy-Duty Trade Quality Construction

Paddock has designed this dethatcher for demanding Australian conditions. The machine uses a heavy-duty powder-coated steel chassis, fixed tine axle with sealed bearings and hardened alloy steel wear components.

Replacement blades and other service parts are available through Paddock Machinery, helping keep the machine operating well into the future.

Why Dethatch Your Lawn?

Thatch is a layer of living and dead organic material including grass stems, roots and other plant matter that accumulates between the visible grass and soil surface.

A small amount of thatch can be normal, but excessive build-up can restrict the movement of water, air and nutrients into the soil and root zone. Conventional mowing generally does not remove this underlying layer.

A lawn dethatcher uses vertical tines to penetrate and disturb the thatch layer, bringing unwanted material to the surface where it can be collected and removed.

Benefits of Lawn Dethatching

  • Removes excessive thatch from the lawn surface
  • Helps water penetrate into the soil and root zone
  • Improves access to air and applied fertilisers
  • Opens the lawn surface in preparation for overseeding
  • Can improve seed-to-soil contact and germination
  • Helps reduce excessive surface organic matter
  • Supports lawn renovation and improved turf density
  • Helps restore the appearance of heavily thatched lawns

Ideal Applications

  • Professional lawn care and landscaping
  • Equipment hire and rental businesses
  • Residential lawns
  • Acreage properties
  • Commercial landscaping
  • Sports and recreational turf
  • Schools and public grounds
  • Lawn renovation and overseeding preparation
