Tractor PTO Pump Spares

Match the pump to the required flow, total head or pressure, fluid type and available tractor PTO speed and horsepower. Also consider suction lift, hose size, duty cycle and whether the pump is intended for clean water, irrigation, firefighting or another service. Use the pump curve rather than maximum flow alone, because actual output falls as discharge head and system resistance increase.
Confirm PTO shaft size, rated PTO speed, rotation direction, available horsepower and the mounting or torque-restraint arrangement. The pump must not be allowed to rotate around the PTO shaft under load. Ensure the driveline is correctly aligned and guarded, and never exceed the pump’s rated input speed. Tractor horsepower should comfortably cover the pump’s demand at the intended operating point.
Likely causes include air leaks on the suction side, excessive suction lift, a blocked strainer, undersized hose, incorrect PTO speed, a worn seal or an empty pump casing where manual priming is required. Check that all suction connections are airtight and that the water source can supply the required volume. Maximum advertised flow is measured under favourable conditions and will reduce with lift, hose length and restrictions.
Only if the system is specifically designed for it and includes suitable bypass or pressure-relief protection. Running against a closed valve can rapidly increase temperature and pressure, damage seals or hoses and overload the pump. Never rely on tractor speed reduction as the only protection. Install the valves and relief devices required for the pump type and application.
Inspect the PTO connection, torque bar, seals, hoses, clamps, valves and guards before use. Clean strainers, maintain gearbox or bearing lubrication where applicable and flush dirty or corrosive water after operation. Never run the pump dry, protect it from freezing and investigate vibration, overheating, leakage or falling output before continuing to operate.
