Description

Heavy duty mechanical pressure switches for automatic pump control based on system pressure. Ideal for remote water pumping installations, these switches provide a simple and reliable way to start and stop compatible pumps without requiring a separate powered pressure sensor or complex control system. Fully adjustable pressure settings and a durable enclosure make them well suited to agricultural, bore water, tank filling and remote pumping applications.

Mechanical Pressure Switch for Water Pumps

  • Automatic pump control based on water pressure
  • Ideal for remote and off-grid pumping installations
  • Adjustable cut-in and cut-out pressure settings
  • Two pressure ranges available
  • 16A, 250VAC electrical rating
  • SPDT snap-action micro-switch
  • Durable UV stabilised enclosure
  • Suitable for demanding Australian conditions
  • 1/4" BSP female pressure connection
  • Maximum working pressure of 25 bar

Automatic Pump Control Using Water Pressure

A mechanical pressure switch provides a simple method of automatically controlling a compatible water pump according to changes in pipeline pressure. This can be particularly useful in remote pumping installations where running additional control or signal wiring between a water tank and pump would be difficult or expensive.

The switch senses water pressure mechanically and operates an internal electrical micro-switch when the selected pressure setting is reached. This allows the pump control circuit to respond directly to changes in system pressure without requiring a separate electronic pressure sensor.

Ideal for Remote Tank Filling

A common application is a bore or remote water pump transferring water uphill to a stock or storage tank. The tank may be located a considerable distance from the pump, making it impractical to run a dedicated control cable between the two locations.

A float valve can be installed on the tank inlet. While the tank requires water, the float valve remains open and water can flow into the tank. As the tank fills, the float valve closes and causes pressure in the delivery pipeline to increase.

The mechanical pressure switch can be installed in the pumping system and configured to respond to this pressure increase. When the selected cut-out pressure is reached, the switch changes electrical state and can stop a suitably configured pump or pump control circuit.

As water is consumed from the tank, the float valve reopens and pipeline pressure falls. Once pressure reaches the selected cut-in point, the pressure switch changes state again, allowing the pump system to restart.

Adjustable Cut-In & Cut-Out Pressure

The pressure switch allows adjustment of the operating pressure as well as the pressure differential. This enables the switching characteristics to be configured to suit the requirements of the pumping system.

Two pressure ranges are available:

  • 1.5–7 bar (21.7–101.5 PSI)
  • 4–12 bar (58–174 PSI)

The appropriate model should be selected to suit the normal operating pressure of the pump and pipeline system.

Simple & Reliable Pump Control

Mechanical pressure switches are particularly useful where simplicity and reliability are important. With pressure providing the control signal, many installations can avoid running a separate signal cable from a remote tank back to the pump location.

The durable construction and adjustable operation make these switches suitable for applications including solar bore pumps, agricultural water transfer, stock water systems, tank filling and other automatic pumping installations.

Important: Pump switching and electrical installation must be configured appropriately for the connected pump, motor and power supply. Where the pump motor exceeds the switch rating or requires additional motor control equipment, the pressure switch should be used with a suitably rated contactor or control system. Electrical installation should be performed by a suitably qualified person.
