Description

Solar surface pumps can be used to pump water from above ground tanks to your house or stock feed area. These pumps can be connected directly to solar panels without the need for a battery. Suitable for off grid living, use with solar panels and/or battery banks, the quality brushless motor will perform for a range of power inputs. Save operating costs and pump water in remote locations without grid power.

Low Voltage DC Water Pump with Brush-less Motor

These pumps are ideal for pumping water in remote locations where grid power isn't available. They can be connected directly to solar panels so they automatically start when the sun is shining. A battery is not necessary for these pumps to operate. Users can add additional elements to the design such as timers and level switches to ensure the pump only starts when there's demand for water.

These pumps are ideally suited to pumping water from above ground water tanks. They can be used as a pressure pump supplying a farm house or to supply stock feed water to a paddock.

These pumps run a low voltage brushless motor making them extremely quiet and efficient. All controls for the pump are integrated making them simple to install.

Inbuilt Smart controller allows direct connection to solar panels

The pumps feature a internal MPPT controller to optimise the performance when connected directly to solar panels. The controller includes a soft start function to prevent pump cycling in low light conditions. Included is under voltage and over voltage protection. If the pump is shutdown in a protection state, it will automatically restart when the voltage or conditions are right again.

The pump controller and termination box also has input terminals for the connection of an external float switch. A float switch can be used to start or stop the pump at different tank water levels. This is ideal if you are supplying a stock feed tank and need the pump to start when the water level falls below a certain level.

Pump Construction

These are quality built pumps featuring a stainless steel wet end construction to ensure a long operating life. The pumps impeller is brass/iron and designed to last, beware of cheap knockoffs running plastic impellers. Quality internal controllers are used to ensure these pumps run effectively and efficiently without the need of a battery in the design. Each pump is factory leak and performance tested prior to supply.

Save Money with Solar and Battery-less Design

Pumps can be high energy users and cost a lot to run. Harnessing the energy from the sun means you can pump water without a grid connection.

Another large cost for off-grid pumping designs is the battery. Battery banks can often cost much more then the pumps and panels and will often need replacing ever ~3-5yrs. These pumps are suitable for direct connection to the solar panel without the need for a battery. If you require pumping when the sun isn't shining, a battery can be incorporated into the design without issue.

Sizing your solar panels

As a guide, you will need 1.5-2 times the pumps motor rating to power the pump at the rated flow conditions.

250W Pump

For a 250W motor pump, users should consider 375-500W of solar panels.

There are a range of methods to power this pump directly from solar panels;

Option 1 - 400W (2 x 200W panels)

Wire 2 x 18V, 200W panels in series to give 400W of power at 36V.

Option 2 - 600W (3 x 200W panels)

Wire 3 x 18V, 200W panels in parallel to give 600W of power at 18V.  Or wire them in series to give 600W at 55V.

600W Pump

For a pump with a 600W motor, users should plan for 900-1,200W of panels.

This model can accept input voltages ranged 45-150V. So powering directly from solar panels can be achieved via;

Option 1 - 1,200W (6 x 200W panels)

Wire 3 x 18v, 200W panels in series to give 600W of power at 54V. Repeat this wiring on a second set of panels. Now wire the 2 banks in parallel to provide 1200W of power at 54V directly to the pump.

Option 2 - 1,000W (5 x 200w panels)

Wire 5 x 18v, 200W panels in series to give 1,000W of power at 90V. Connect directly to the pump.

High Discharge Pressure and Flow Rates

The pumps come in a range of sizes and designs for all user requirements.

To convert max. head into pressure, users should multiply by gravity (9.8) and water density (1000kg/m3) to get the pressure in Pa, divide by 1000 for kPa. For example, for a maximum head of 22m, users should expect ~215 kPa discharge pressure or 31 psi.

Solar Surface Pump 12V 1.7/22-12/180-S

Been up and running from the day it was delivered, running around 1.5 suction pushing uphill through 70 meters of 1 inch pipe , head approx 3 meters. With one 160w solar panel it will happily run at around 7 - 8 amps and upwards, if battery connected the pump draws about 15 amps and with my set up does about 9 liters in 15 seconds. Pumps all day and no complaints !

Scintex pump

Seems a good product at the price, I like the switch and float switch inputs, unlike other models on the market, a flow switch (which other models have) would be a good option,
