A mechanical pressure switch is ideal for turning your remote solar or 240v pump on and off at pressure set points. It works without the need for power making it extremely versatile and reliable.
A common application would see a down-hole solar bore water pump or similar, discharging water directly up a hill to a stock feed tank. The tank is a long way from the pump and there is no cabling or communication between these locations. When the sun is shining, the pump wants to run and pump water. However, when the stock feed tank fills, what turns the pump off?
Incorporating a mechanical pressure switch in the above design is perfect as it allows the pump to be turned on and off as the tank fills. Simply fit a float valve to the tank inlet, when the tank fills the valve will close. The closure of the tank fill pipe puts back-pressure on the pipeline, increasing the pressure at the pumps outlet.
The mechanical pressure switch can be installed at grade next to the power supply of the pump. When the pressure rises, it actives the pressure switch and cuts power to the pumps motor.
The user has the ability to not only set and adjust the pressure at which this switch activates, you can also adjust the differential pressure at which the switch de-activates.
This type of installation saves having to run a signal cable between the tank and the pump and offers a mechanical solution which is extremely reliable and low complexity.
