Description

The Multifunction Smart Single Pump Controller provides automatic control and protection for compatible 240V pumps up to 2.2kW. Ideal for bore, tank and water transfer systems, the controller can monitor pump current to help detect dry-running, overcurrent and locked-rotor conditions.

Additional inputs allow compatible float switches or a 0.5–4.5V pressure sensor to be incorporated for automatic pump control based on tank level or system pressure.

Multifunction Smart Single Pump Controller – Up to 2.2kW

Running a pump without adequate water supply can result in overheating and premature pump damage. This smart controller monitors operating conditions and can automatically stop the pump when programmed protection limits are reached.

For bore and submersible pump applications, the controller can monitor motor current and detect an undercurrent condition associated with reduced pump load. This provides a practical method of protecting installations where the water level may fall or the available bore yield may become insufficient for the pump.

Dry-Running Pump Protection

Dry-running is an important consideration with bore and submersible pumps. A pump may initially be fully submerged, but changing groundwater levels or a reduction in bore production can eventually result in insufficient water reaching the pump.

The controller can be configured to monitor the pump's normal operating current. If current falls below the programmed threshold, the controller can stop the pump after the selected protection delay.

A reduction in motor current can indicate that the pump is operating under reduced load, which may occur when water supply is lost.

Current-based dry-run protection should be correctly configured for the individual pump and installation. An undercurrent condition can have causes other than loss of water supply.

Overcurrent & Locked-Rotor Protection

The controller can also detect excessive motor current. This can provide protection where the pump becomes mechanically restricted, overloaded or experiences a locked-rotor condition.

The stated locked-rotor protection response time is approximately 1 second, with a stated 30 minute recovery period following an overcurrent trip.

Over & Under-Voltage Protection

Supply voltage is monitored to help protect the connected pump from operation outside the controller's specified voltage range.

Automatic Tank Level Control

Compatible float switches can be connected to the controller to automate pump operation according to liquid level.

The supplied input specification provides connections for:

  • 3 × lower tank float switch inputs
  • 3 × upper tank float switch inputs

This allows the controller to be incorporated into suitable tank filling, transfer and level-control systems.

Pressure-Based Pump Control

The controller also provides an input for a compatible 0.5–4.5V voltage-output pressure sensor, allowing pump operation to be controlled according to system pressure when correctly configured.

The pressure sensor is an external input and must be compatible with the controller requirements.

External Alarm Output

An external alarm contact output is provided, allowing the controller to interface with a suitable external alarm or monitoring arrangement.

Installation & Setup

Correct setup is important for current-based pump protection. The undercurrent and overcurrent settings should be configured to suit the normal operating characteristics of the connected pump and installation.

Float switches, pressure sensors, alarms and other external control devices must also be compatible with the controller inputs and installed correctly for the intended control function.

This controller requires connection to 240V electrical wiring and must be installed by a suitably licensed electrician in accordance with applicable electrical requirements.
