When it comes to loading heavy equipment from your trailer or truck, the Sherpa 20,000lb Tow Truck Winch is the ultimate solution. Engineered specifically for hauling containers, machinery, and other heavy loads from flatbed trucks, tilt trays, and custom trailers, this winch was developed based on direct customer feedback. It comes standard with a powerful braking system for safe, reliable, and easy operation—making it the go-to choice for serious recovery and loading tasks.

The Sherpa winch features a genuine waterproof Albright International solenoid, a robust 3-stage planetary gearbox, and 28 metres of steel or synthetic cable. Available in both 12V and 24V options, it’s designed to make light work of heavy lifting. The electric brake in the motor is automatically released when the winch is powered in either direction, allowing you to focus on the most demanding recovery and loading tasks.

How is tow truck winch capacity rated?

Winch ratings are normally based on the maximum pulling force available on the first layer of rope wound onto the drum. As additional layers build up, the effective drum diameter increases and available pulling force decreases. Selecting adequate capacity requires considering vehicle weight, recovery conditions and rolling resistance rather than relying solely on kerb weight.

Is synthetic rope suitable for tow truck winches?

Synthetic rope is lighter, easier to handle and stores less energy if it fails, making it popular on modern recovery vehicles. Steel cable remains highly resistant to abrasion and heat. The best choice depends on operating conditions, maintenance practices and operator preference.

Why is the first layer on the drum so important?

The first layer provides the highest pulling force because the drum diameter is smallest. Whenever possible, recover heavy loads with as much rope off the drum as practical so the winch operates closer to its rated capacity.

What maintenance does a tow truck winch require?

Inspect the rope, fairlead, hook, drum, mounting bolts and electrical or hydraulic connections regularly. Lubricate components where specified, keep the drum free of debris and replace damaged rope immediately rather than attempting temporary repairs.

Should a snatch block be used for heavy recoveries?

A snatch block can effectively double pulling power in many straight-line recovery situations while reducing load on the winch. Correct rigging, rated recovery equipment and suitable anchor points remain essential for safe operation.

Great pump . Indestructible

Highly recommended .We have a few of these as we are a oil manufacturer . These pumps are very good and reliable. I have had nuts , bolts and rocks go through them and they keep on working as the viens and gears are all steel . No plastic that can shatter .Only had to replace a mechanical seal on them once which I was able to get from Scintex . Takes about 7 minutes to transfer 200 liters of gear oil through a 25 mm hose .
