Inlet Suction Strainer & Foot Valve – 1" & 2" BSP
Description
Protect pumps and downstream filters from rust, debris and other coarse particles with these inlet suction strainers with integrated foot valves. Designed for installation on the suction side of compatible pumping systems, they provide approximately 1000 micron filtration while the built-in one-way foot valve helps maintain prime.
Available in aluminium and 316 stainless steel options with 1" and 2" BSP female connections, depending on the selected model.
Inlet Suction Strainer & Foot Valve
These combination suction strainers and foot valves provide two important functions at the pump inlet. The coarse strainer helps prevent larger particles and debris from entering the pump, while the integrated one-way valve helps retain liquid within the suction line to assist with pump priming.
The compact design makes selected models suitable for use inside drums and tanks, including standard 44 gallon / 200L drums.

Protect Your Pump
Contamination in drums, tanks and other storage vessels can enter the suction line during pumping. Rust flakes and other solid debris may cause premature pump wear, blockages or damage to downstream equipment.
Installing a coarse suction strainer at the inlet helps capture larger particles before they reach the pump and any finer downstream filtration.
Integrated Foot Valve
A one-way foot valve is incorporated into the strainer assembly. This helps prevent liquid in the suction line from draining back into the tank or drum when the pump stops, assisting with maintaining prime for subsequent operation.
Actual priming performance will depend on the pump, suction line arrangement, installation and condition of the valve.
Aluminium & 316 Stainless Steel Options
Choose between aluminium and 316 stainless steel versions depending on the selected size and application.
The 316 stainless steel versions provide increased corrosion resistance for demanding installations. Always confirm material compatibility with the liquid being transferred before use.
Typical Applications
- Fuel transfer systems
- Oil transfer systems
- Drum pumps
- Tank transfer systems
- Pump suction lines
- Pre-filtration before pumps and finer filters

Installation & Selection
Install the strainer at the inlet end of the pump suction line and ensure all suction-side connections are correctly sealed to prevent air entering the system.
Select the appropriate connection size and construction material for the pump and liquid being transferred. Ensure the strainer remains sufficiently submerged during operation and inspect and clean it periodically to maintain unrestricted flow.
A suction strainer is commonly recommended to help protect transfer pumps from contamination. Refer to the specific pump manufacturer's installation and warranty requirements where applicable.
