Description

Professional 175mm metal-bond diamond grinding discs for concrete surface preparation, coating removal, grinding and polishing applications. Available in a range of grits, segment configurations and hard or soft bonds to suit different concrete conditions and stages of surface preparation.

175mm Concrete Grinder Diamond Discs

These heavy-duty diamond grinding discs are designed for use with compatible concrete floor grinders including Paddock™ 480mm grinders, Floorex Satellite grinders and other compatible Floorex and Allprep machines.

Choosing the correct bond, grit and segment configuration is important for achieving efficient grinding performance and good disc life. Different options are available for aggressive coating removal, general concrete grinding and finer surface preparation.

Diamond Grinding Disc Features
  • 175mm diameter concrete grinding discs
  • 10mm diamond segment height
  • Hard and soft metal-bond options
  • Grits available from 16 through to 150
  • 3, 6, 8 and 9 segment options available depending on grit and bond
  • Suitable for concrete grinding and surface preparation
  • Options for aggressive coating and adhesive removal
  • Compatible with magnetic plugs
  • Three discs required for Paddock™ 480mm and compatible Floorex Satellite grinders
Selecting the Correct Diamond Bond

The bond refers to the metal matrix that holds the diamond particles in each grinding segment. Selecting the appropriate bond for the concrete being worked helps maintain cutting performance while providing suitable segment life.

Hard bond discs are generally suited to softer or more abrasive concrete. The harder bond helps slow segment wear when working on abrasive surfaces.

Soft bond discs are generally suited to harder concrete. The softer bond wears away progressively to expose fresh diamond particles and maintain grinding performance on hard surfaces.

Selecting the Correct Grit

Lower grit numbers provide a more aggressive cut and are generally used for initial grinding, coating removal and heavier surface preparation. Higher grit numbers produce a finer finish and are suited to later stages of the grinding process.

  • 16 grit: Very aggressive grinding and heavy surface preparation
  • 30 grit: General concrete grinding and surface preparation
  • 80 grit: Finer grinding and preparation
  • 150 grit: Fine finishing and final-stage surface preparation

A finishing pass with a 150 grit disc may provide a suitable surface for some sealer applications. Always follow the sealer or coating manufacturer's specified surface-preparation requirements.

Selecting the Number of Segments

The number of diamond segments influences both grinding aggression and disc wear.

Fewer segments concentrate the machine's weight over a smaller contact area, increasing pressure on each segment. This can provide a more aggressive grinding action and is particularly useful for coating, adhesive and glue removal.

More segments distribute the load over a larger contact area. This generally provides smoother grinding and can help increase disc life where segment wear is excessive.

If grinding performance is too slow, moving to a disc with fewer segments may increase grinding aggression. If segment wear is excessive, moving to a disc with more segments may help extend service life.

3-Segment Diamond Discs

The aggressive 3-segment configuration concentrates grinding pressure onto fewer diamond segments. This makes these discs particularly useful for demanding surface preparation and removal of coatings, adhesives and other surface contaminants.

6, 8 & 9-Segment Diamond Discs

Higher segment-count discs distribute the grinding load across more diamond segments and are suited to general grinding, surface preparation and finer finishing applications. The ideal configuration will depend on the concrete hardness, required finish and grinder being used.

Machine Compatibility

Three 175mm discs are required when fitting compatible Paddock™ 480mm concrete grinders and Floorex Satellite grinders.

These discs also suit a range of compatible Floorex and Allprep grinding machines. Always check the mounting dimensions and machine requirements before ordering for equipment other than the specified Paddock™ and Floorex applications.

Silica Dust Control

Grinding concrete can generate hazardous respirable crystalline silica dust. Appropriate dust-control measures should be used when operating concrete grinding equipment, including suitable dust extraction and personal protective equipment as required for the application and work environment.

Note: Diamond disc performance and service life will vary depending on concrete hardness, abrasiveness, grinder setup, operating technique and the material being removed. Selecting the correct bond, grit and segment configuration is important for achieving the best result.
