Description
The Paddock™ Walk-Behind Trencher is a heavy-duty petrol-powered trenching machine designed for installing irrigation lines, electrical conduit, drainage, plumbing and other underground services. Powered by a genuine Briggs & Stratton XR2100 13.5HP commercial engine, the trencher offers selectable cutting depths of 200mm, 400mm and 600mm.
Its compact walk-behind design, carbide cutting teeth and side clearing auger make it suitable for contractors, trades, farms, acreage properties and equipment hire applications.
Paddock™ 13.5HP Walk-Behind Trencher
The Paddock™ walk-behind trencher provides a compact alternative to larger trenching machinery for jobs where access, manoeuvrability and controlled trench depth are important.
The machine uses a chain fitted with 27 carbide alloy cutting blades to break and excavate the ground. A side auger moves excavated soil away from the trench, leaving material positioned nearby for convenient backfilling after pipes, conduit or cables have been installed.

200–600mm Adjustable Trenching Depth
The trencher provides three predetermined working-depth settings:
- 200mm
- 400mm
- 600mm
This allows the operator to configure the machine for different underground installation requirements without having to estimate the trench depth continuously during operation.
Actual trench depth and operating performance can vary depending on ground conditions, soil composition, moisture, rocks, roots and other buried material.

Briggs & Stratton Commercial Petrol Engine
The trencher is powered by a genuine Briggs & Stratton XR2100 13.5HP 4-stroke commercial petrol engine.
Briggs & Stratton engines are widely supported, helping provide access to servicing and replacement engine parts over the working life of the machine.
Carbide Cutting Teeth
The trenching chain is fitted with 27 carbide alloy cutting blades selected for wear resistance in demanding ground conditions.
The carbide teeth work through soil as the cutting chain travels around the boom, while the side auger moves loosened material away from the trench opening.
Side Clearing Auger
The integrated auger moves excavated soil to the side of the trench rather than allowing it to fall directly back into the cut.
This helps produce a cleaner trench and leaves the excavated material conveniently positioned for backfilling once the underground service has been installed.
Compact Walk-Behind Design
At approximately 720mm wide, the trencher can access many areas that would be difficult for larger ride-on trenching machinery.
Its walk-behind configuration is useful around:

Trenching Productivity
Under suitable ground conditions, trenching rates of approximately 60m/hour may be achievable.
Actual productivity will vary considerably with soil conditions, trench depth, roots, rocks, operator technique and other site factors. Hard or rocky ground will generally reduce trenching speed.
How the Walk-Behind Trencher Operates
Before trenching, mark the intended path and confirm the area is clear of underground services and other hazards.
After starting and warming the engine, select the required trench-depth setting. The machine is progressively worked into the ground using the handle and pivoting action while the trenching chain cuts through the soil.
The operator then moves the trencher progressively along the marked path, allowing the chain and side auger to excavate the trench.
Operating technique should be adjusted to suit ground conditions rather than forcing the machine through difficult material.

Important Before Trenching
Always identify underground services before digging. Electricity, gas, water, telecommunications and other underground infrastructure may be present even where there are no visible indications above ground.
Use the appropriate service-location process for the site and follow applicable excavation requirements before beginning work.
Keep bystanders clear of the machine and cutting area during operation. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and never approach the chain while the engine is running.
Engine setup: The engine is stored and transported with only enough oil for storage protection. Check the engine oil level and add the correct oil as required before starting for the first time.
Minor assembly is required before operation.
