Sherpa 4x4 Stainless Steel Braked Hand Winches – 270kg & 600kg Lifting Capacity
Description
The Sherpa 4x4 Stainless Steel Braked Hand Winches provide controlled manual pulling, lifting and lowering for marine, davit and general load-handling applications. Constructed with a 304 stainless steel winch body and supplied with stainless steel cable and hook, these winches provide excellent corrosion resistance for demanding environments.
Available in two sizes, the range provides first-layer lifting capacities of 270kg and 600kg, with separate first-layer pulling capacities of 545kg and 1,200kg respectively.
Sherpa 4x4 Stainless Steel Braked Hand Winches
Designed for applications where controlled raising and lowering is required, these Sherpa manual winches incorporate an automatic load pressure brake. When the operator stops turning the handle, the brake engages to hold the load in position.
Unlike a conventional free-spooling trailer winch, these models do not incorporate a disengage or free-spool function. This makes them particularly suited to appropriately engineered applications such as davits and adjustable keels where controlled movement in both directions is required.

Automatic Load Pressure Brake
The automatic load pressure brake is designed to provide controlled operation when raising and lowering loads. When the handle is released, the brake engages to hold the load rather than allowing the drum to free-spool.
This makes the winch particularly useful for applications where controlled load positioning is required.
Marine & Davit Applications
The 304 stainless steel winch body, stainless steel cable and stainless steel hook provide good corrosion resistance for marine and outdoor environments.
Typical applications include boat davits, adjustable sailing boat keels and other appropriately designed lifting, lowering and positioning systems.
While 304 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance, routine cleaning, inspection and maintenance are recommended, particularly following exposure to saltwater or other corrosive environments.
Pulling vs Lifting Capacity
These winches have separate rated capacities for pulling and lifting. Always select and operate the winch according to the rating applicable to the intended task.
- SWSS1200S: 545kg first-layer pulling capacity / 270kg first-layer lifting capacity
- SWSS2600S: 1,200kg first-layer pulling capacity / 600kg first-layer lifting capacity
The stated capacities apply to the first layer of cable on the drum. As additional cable layers build on the drum, the effective drum diameter increases and the available pulling or lifting capacity reduces.

Installation & Safe Use
Select the winch according to whether the application involves pulling or lifting and never exceed the applicable rated capacity. The winch must be securely mounted to a structure designed to withstand the intended load and the forces generated during operation.
All mounting hardware, attachment points, cable, hooks and other components forming part of the lifting or pulling system must be appropriately selected and rated for the intended application.
Inspect the winch, cable, hook, brake and mounting system before use. Do not use components showing excessive wear, corrosion or damage.
When used for lifting, never allow personnel beneath or within the fall zone of a suspended load. Do not use the winch for lifting or supporting people.
Important: The rated capacities shown are first-layer capacities. Available capacity reduces as additional layers of cable build on the drum.
Note: These are braked hand winches and do not incorporate a free-spool or disengage function.
