Description
The Standard Walking Irrigator is an Australian-made, mechanically driven travelling irrigator designed for farms, horticulture, pasture and acreage irrigation. Available with 7m or 11m boom options, it combines four travel speeds, a 300m cable run and automatic travel stop for efficient irrigation of larger areas.
Depending on nozzle selection, pressure and boom configuration, the irrigator can achieve wetted widths up to approximately 36m. An optional automatic water shut-off valve can also be added for end-of-run operation.
For smaller irrigation applications, see the Junior Walking Irrigator with 3.2m boom.
Australian Made Standard Walking Irrigator
The Standard Walking Irrigator provides a simple mechanical solution for irrigating larger areas without hydraulics, electric drive motors or a water-powered winch system.
The irrigator follows a guide cable as it travels across the field, operating mechanically from the movement of the machine while water is supplied through the irrigation hose.

7m & 11m Boom Options
The Standard Walking Irrigator is available with either a 7m or 11m boom.
The larger 11m boom can provide a wider wetted pattern under comparable operating conditions, while the 7m option offers a more compact machine for transport, storage and manoeuvring.
Actual irrigation width depends on nozzle size, available water pressure, flow rate, wind and operating conditions.
Four Travel Speeds
Four mechanical travel speeds allow the operator to adjust how quickly the irrigator moves across the field.
Changing the travel speed alters the amount of water applied to a given area. Slower travel generally increases application depth, while faster travel reduces it.
Automatic Travel Stop
An automatic travel stop is supplied as standard. When the irrigator reaches the end of its guide cable, the machine stops travelling.
Water will continue flowing unless the optional automatic shut-off valve is fitted.
Optional Automatic Water Shut-Off
The optional shut-off valve can stop water flow to the irrigator when it reaches the end of the run.
The shut-off valve does not switch off the irrigation pump. A separate pump control arrangement is required where automatic pump shutdown is needed.
Nozzle Options
The irrigator is supplied with washers allowing three nozzle diameter configurations:
- 1/2"
- 5/8"
- 3/4"
Nozzle selection affects flow rate, wetted width and irrigation application rate.
Effluent nozzles are also available for suitable effluent-irrigation applications.
Water & Effluent Applications
The Standard Walking Irrigator can be configured for clean-water irrigation or suitable effluent applications.
Effluent use requires the appropriate nozzle configuration and may also require additional accessories depending on the system.
Typical Applications
- Pasture irrigation
- Horticulture
- Market gardens
- Farms and cropping areas
- Acreage properties
- Open-field irrigation
- Suitable effluent irrigation
- Stock-feed and pasture areas

Optional Irrigator Accessories
100m Layflat Hose with Camlocks
Heavy-duty 50mm ribbed layflat irrigation hose supplied with aluminium camlocks and clamps. Multiple lengths can be joined where required.
Automatic Shut-Off Valve
Stops water flow to the irrigator when it reaches the end of the guide cable. A separate system is required if the water pump also needs to be switched off automatically.
Bolt-On Hose Reel
Allows up to approximately 100m of compatible irrigation hose to be stored on the irrigator.
Twin Front Wheels
Available to increase front-end stability and allow the irrigator to straddle suitable furrows.
Effluent Nozzles & Sumpmaster Cam
Available where the irrigator is being configured for suitable effluent applications.
Extended Guide Cable
Guide cable can be configured up to the stated maximum 300m run length.
Irrigation Hose Selection
Heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant ribbed layflat hose is recommended for the walking irrigator because it is designed to be dragged across the field during operation.
Keep the hose layout as free from sharp bends, twists and obstructions as practical. A suitable hose skid can help reduce tangling and wear while the irrigator travels.
Water Supply Layout
For long irrigation runs, locating the water supply connection near the centre of the irrigator path can help reduce the maximum hose length required on either side of the hydrant.
