Description
The Paddock Tractor PTO Flail Mower is a heavy duty 1,750mm mower designed for paddocks, acreages, long grass, scrub and rougher terrain. Suited to tractors in the 35-85HP range, it combines a wide cutting path with hydraulic side shift, forged hammer blades and a PTO slip clutch for a durable and versatile mowing setup.
The flail design is particularly effective where grass needs to be shredded and mulched rather than simply cut and laid down. It can also handle light scrub and woody growth up to approximately 50mm diameter depending on material and operating conditions.

Heavy Duty Flail Mower for Farms & Acreages
This mower is designed for property owners, farmers and contractors who need a robust implement capable of working across a range of vegetation and ground conditions.
Typical applications include:
- Long grass and paddock maintenance
- Pasture topping
- Light scrub and brush clearing
- Roadside and fence-line mowing
- Acreage maintenance
- Orchards and rural properties
- General vegetation mulching
Why Choose a Flail Mower?
A flail mower uses a rotating horizontal drum fitted with individual swinging blades or hammers.
Unlike a conventional rotary slasher, each flail can move independently. If a blade contacts a hard object such as a rock or branch, the individual flail can swing back rather than transferring the full impact through a large rigid blade assembly.
The flail design is also particularly effective in long grass because the material is cut and shredded into smaller pieces. This produces a finer mulch which can break down faster than the longer material typically left by some rotary slashers.
Handles Grass, Scrub & Light Woody Growth
The Paddock flail mower is well suited to long grass and general paddock work and can also process light brush and shrubs up to approximately 50mm diameter.
Actual cutting capacity will depend on factors including:
- Vegetation type
- Material hardness
- Ground speed
- Tractor power
- Cutting height
- Condition of the hammer blades
For heavier scrub, slower travel speeds and multiple passes may be required.
1,750mm Cutting Width
The mower provides a working width of approximately 1,750mm, allowing large paddocks and acreage areas to be covered efficiently while still remaining practical behind mid-sized tractors.
Overall mower width is approximately 2,000mm.
Hydraulic Side Shift Included
Hydraulic side shift is fitted as standard and allows the mower body to move laterally relative to the tractor.
From the central position, the mower can shift approximately:
- 160mm to the left
- 120mm to the right
This is useful when mowing close to fence lines, trees, edges and other obstacles while keeping the tractor itself further away.
The mower is supplied with hydraulic hoses and quick-connect couplings.
Note: If the tractor does not have suitable rear hydraulic remotes, the mower can still be operated with the hydraulic hoses disconnected, but the side-shift function will not be available.
Forged Hammer Blades
The mower is fitted with 24 forged and hardened hammer blades.
Hammer-style flails are well suited to demanding rural mowing applications because they provide good mass and impact energy for breaking down thick grass, weeds and light woody vegetation.
Replacement blades and other service parts are available through Scintex.
Adjustable Cutting Height
Cutting height can be adjusted using the mower skids, with approximate settings of:
- 20mm
- 40mm
- 60mm
Additional height adjustment can also be achieved through the tractor's 3-point linkage.
The rear roller helps support and stabilise the mower while operating and assists in maintaining a more consistent cutting height over uneven ground.
Rear Roller & Scraper
A full-width rear roller is fitted to help the mower follow ground contours and improve stability.
The integrated scraper helps keep the roller cleaner during operation where grass, soil and other debris may otherwise accumulate.
Cat I & Cat II Tractor Compatibility
The mower is designed for tractors with standard Category I or Category II three-point linkage.
Linkage pins are included.
A tractor power range of approximately 35-85HP is recommended. Tractor weight, hydraulic capacity, PTO output and linkage lift capacity should also be checked before purchase.
540 RPM PTO Drive
The mower is designed for a standard 540 RPM tractor PTO.
The internal drive system increases this input speed to approximately 2,125 RPM at the flail drum, producing a cutting tip speed of approximately 45.5m/s.
This high rotor speed allows the hammer blades to cut and mulch vegetation efficiently.
PTO Slip Clutch Included
The PTO shaft is supplied with an integrated slip clutch.
The clutch helps protect the mower drivetrain and tractor PTO from sudden shock loads if the cutting rotor encounters a heavy obstruction or overload condition.
The clutch should be correctly adjusted and maintained in accordance with the operating instructions.
Heavy Duty Construction
The Paddock flail mower is built around a heavy duty powder coated steel body designed for agricultural and rural operating conditions.
The gearbox, rotor, linkage and cutting assembly are all specified for regular tractor-mounted use.
The complete mower weighs approximately 523kg, so users should confirm their tractor has sufficient 3-point linkage lift capacity and stability for safe operation and transport.

Before Purchasing
Check that your tractor is suitable for the mower by confirming:
- 35-85HP recommended power range
- 540 RPM PTO output
- Cat I or Cat II 3-point linkage
- Sufficient rear linkage lift capacity for the 523kg mower
- Sufficient tractor stability and front ballast if required
- Suitable rear hydraulic remotes if hydraulic side shift is to be used
Setup & Maintenance
The mower is supplied with the PTO shaft and linkage pins, but some minor assembly is required before use.
Gearbox oil must be added before the mower is operated.
Routine maintenance should include:
- Checking gearbox oil level
- Greasing PTO and linkage points
- Inspecting and maintaining the PTO slip clutch
- Checking hammer blade wear and condition
- Checking rotor and roller bearings
- Inspecting hydraulic hoses and fittings
- Checking fasteners regularly
Important Operating Notes
PTO speed: Operate at the specified 540 RPM PTO speed unless otherwise directed by the operating manual.
Foreign objects: Inspect the mowing area for wire, rocks, timber, metal and other hazards before operation.
Blade clearance: Keep people and animals well clear of the mower during operation. Flail mowers can eject debris at high speed.
Hydraulics: Ensure hydraulic hoses and couplings are compatible with the tractor before using the side-shift function.
Transport: The mower is heavy. Ensure the tractor remains stable during lifting, turning and transport, and use appropriate ballast where required.
Initial setup: Gearbox oil must be added before first operation. Minor assembly is required due to shipping and storage configuration.
