Description
The Paddock Tractor PTO Driven Wood Chipper range is built for Australian farms, acreages and commercial property maintenance. Powered directly from your tractor's PTO, these heavy duty chippers turn branches, limbs and woody debris into manageable wood chips without the need for a separate petrol or diesel engine.
Two models are available to suit different tractor sizes and workloads, from the compact SPTOWC160 with automatic self-feeding for branches up to 150mm, through to the large PHDPTOCHIP with hydraulic feed and capacity for material up to 300mm diameter.

Put Your Tractor's Power to Work
A PTO wood chipper makes excellent use of the power and reliability already available from your tractor. Instead of maintaining another engine, fuel system and starting system, the chipper connects to the tractor's three-point linkage and uses the tractor PTO to drive the cutting flywheel.
This makes the chipper particularly practical for farms and large properties where the tractor is already used for moving around the site.
Simply attach the chipper, connect the PTO shaft and relocate the complete setup close to the material requiring processing.
Two PTO Chipper Models Available
The Paddock range includes two very different chipper sizes to suit small-to-medium tractors through to large agricultural equipment.
SPTOWC160 - 150mm Self-Feeding Wood Chipper
The SPTOWC160 suits Category I and II tractors from approximately 30-100HP.
It uses a simple automatic self-feeding hopper arrangement which allows the chipper action to draw branches into the cutting chamber without requiring a separate hydraulic feed system.
This keeps the design simple and makes the chipper suitable for tractors without auxiliary hydraulic connections.
Maximum recommended wood diameter is approximately 150mm / 6".
PHDPTOCHIP - 300mm Hydraulic Feed Wood Chipper
The larger PHDPTOCHIP is designed for tractors of approximately 90HP or greater with Category II or III linkage.
A hydraulic double-arm feed system provides positive control of large branches and heavy material as it enters the chipper.
The feed system provides:
- Forward feed
- Neutral
- Reverse
- Multiple feed speed settings
This model requires the tractor to have suitable auxiliary hydraulic connections.
Maximum recommended wood diameter is approximately 300mm / 12".
Heavy Duty Flywheel Chipping System
At the heart of each chipper is a large, heavy flywheel which stores rotational energy and delivers it through the cutting blades as material enters the chipper.
The SPTOWC160 uses a 762mm / 30" flywheel, while the larger PHDPTOCHIP uses a massive 1080mm / 42.5" flywheel.
Each flywheel carries four hardened cutting blades designed for demanding wood chipping applications.
Replaceable Chipper Blades
The cutting knives are replaceable wear components and can also be removed for sharpening as required.
Keeping the cutting edges in good condition improves:
- Feed performance
- Chipping efficiency
- Chip quality
- PTO power utilisation
- Overall machine productivity
Replacement components are available to keep the chipper operating over the long term.
Large Feed Hopper
The generous feed opening allows branches and irregular material to be processed with less preparation.
The SPTOWC160 has a chipper housing opening of approximately 165 x 254mm, while the PHDPTOCHIP increases this substantially to approximately 304 x 406mm.
Larger openings reduce the amount of branch trimming required before feeding and help improve productivity during large cleanup jobs.
360° Rotating Discharge Chute
The discharge chute can be rotated through 360 degrees, allowing the operator to direct wood chips where required.
This is useful for:
- Loading trailers
- Filling bins
- Building mulch piles
- Spreading chips along tracks or garden areas
- Directing discharge away from the tractor and operator
Mobile Chipping Around the Property
One of the major benefits of a PTO chipper is mobility.
Because the chipper travels on the tractor's three-point linkage, it can be taken directly to fallen trees, pruning piles and clearing areas rather than transporting bulky branches back to a fixed chipper.
This is particularly useful on:
- Farms
- Large acreages
- Orchards
- Rural properties
- Council land
- Storm and flood cleanup sites
Turn Waste into Useful Mulch
Branches and woody debris that would otherwise require burning, transporting or disposal can be converted into useful wood chips.
Wood chips can be reused for:
- Garden mulch
- Pathways
- Moisture retention around plants
- Composting material
- Landscaping
- Erosion management
Low Maintenance PTO Design
Because the chipper uses the tractor's existing engine and drivetrain, there is no separate chipper engine to fuel, service or maintain.
Routine chipper maintenance is primarily focused on:
- Greasing lubrication points
- Inspecting PTO components
- Checking cutting blade condition
- Inspecting bearings
- Checking fasteners
- Maintaining guards
- Cleaning the feed and discharge areas
Telescopic PTO Shaft Included
Each chipper is supplied with a telescopic PTO shaft to accommodate differences between tractor configurations.
The driveline incorporates guarding to help isolate rotating components from the operator.
The PTO shaft may require adjustment to suit the specific tractor installation. Always follow the supplied manual when setting up PTO shaft length and working angles.
Typical Applications
- Farm cleanup
- Property maintenance
- Tree pruning waste
- Orchard maintenance
- Storm and flood debris cleanup
- Land clearing
- Mulch production
- Council and shire maintenance
- Commercial landscaping
- Hire and rental applications

SPTOWC160 or PHDPTOCHIP - Which Chipper Should I Choose?
Choose the SPTOWC160 if:
- Your tractor is approximately 30-100HP
- You have Category I or II three-point linkage
- You do not have or do not want to rely on auxiliary hydraulics
- You primarily need to process branches up to approximately 150mm
- You want a comparatively compact PTO chipper
Choose the PHDPTOCHIP if:
- Your tractor is at least approximately 90HP
- You have Category II or III linkage
- Your tractor has suitable auxiliary hydraulic connections
- You need controlled hydraulic feeding
- You regularly process large branches up to approximately 300mm
- You require a large commercial or agricultural chipper
Safe Chipper Operation
Wood chippers contain high-energy rotating components and should only be operated by users familiar with the equipment and its safety instructions.
Always read the supplied manual before operation and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Recommended PPE may include:
- Eye and face protection
- Hearing protection
- Suitable gloves for material handling
- Protective footwear
- Close-fitting work clothing
Avoid loose clothing, jewellery or anything that could become caught in branches or moving equipment.
Never reach into the feed chute or discharge chute and never remove guards while the tractor or PTO system is operating.
Important PTO Safety
Always ensure PTO guards and driveline protection are correctly fitted before operation.
Before servicing, clearing blockages, inspecting blades or working around the cutting system:
- Disengage the PTO
- Shut down the tractor
- Remove the ignition key
- Allow all rotating components to come to a complete stop
Follow the tractor and chipper manufacturer's instructions regarding PTO shaft adjustment, linkage setup and safe operating angles.
