Why Choose a Sherpa 4x4 Winch?
Tried & Tested
Sherpa winches have been developed through years of experience in winching and recovery applications. The range has undergone ongoing testing and development to produce dependable winches suited to demanding Australian off-road conditions.
Tough & Durable
The Mustang is built to withstand harsh environments. 316 stainless steel fittings and cross members provide excellent corrosion resistance, while the winch is IP68 rated for protection against water and dust ingress.
Gearbox-Mounted Brake
The Mustang uses an automatic brake incorporated into the gearbox. This design keeps braking heat away from the winch drum, an important consideration when using synthetic rope.
Unlike conventional brake-in-drum designs, the Sherpa gearbox braking system helps minimise heat transfer to the rope while providing reliable load holding during recovery.
Quality Planetary Gearbox
The 6.0hp motor is matched to a 246:1 3-stage planetary gearbox. Sherpa specifies quality gearing and components to provide the strength and durability required for demanding winching applications.
Powerful Series-Wound Motor
The Mustang's 6.0hp series-wound motor provides strong pulling performance across the winch's operating range. Series-wound motors are well suited to recovery winches due to their ability to produce high torque under load.
Simple Installation
The Mustang uses a common 254mm x 114.3mm mounting bolt pattern and is designed to integrate with many common Australian winch-compatible bullbars.
Each winch kit includes the control box, wired remote, power cabling, hook, mounting hardware and the appropriate fairlead for the selected rope or cable configuration.
Genuine Albright Solenoid
All Sherpa 4x4 winches are supplied with a genuine Albright solenoid. The control system incorporates a custom version of the Albright DC88P contactor developed for Sherpa 4x4 control boxes.
The heavy-duty contactor is rated to handle up to 800 amps and provides the dependable switching performance required in high-current electric winch applications. The sealed design also provides excellent protection from water, mud and harsh off-road environments.
Synthetic Rope or Steel Cable
The Mustang is available with your choice of synthetic rope or steel cable, allowing you to select the configuration that best suits your vehicle and recovery requirements.
Synthetic Rope – Lightweight, easy to handle and supplied with a polished aluminium hawse fairlead.
Steel Cable – Durable and abrasion resistant, supplied with a 4-way roller fairlead.

Sherpa Mustang winches are supplied as a complete kit with the components required for a typical winch installation.

Optional & Recommended Accessories
Sherpa offers a range of winch accessories including wireless remote controls, winch dampeners, isolation switches and recovery equipment. See the Sherpa 4WD Accessories range for available options.
A winch dampener is recommended whenever winching and is particularly important when using steel cable. A battery isolation switch is also recommended to allow the winch power supply to be securely isolated when the winch is not in use.
