Sherpa 4x4 'The Stallion' 25,000lb Heavy-Duty Winch
Built for Heavy Vehicle Recovery
The Stallion combines a high-output electric motor, heavy-duty gearbox and large drum capacity to provide the pulling capability required for demanding recovery applications.
Its stated 25,000lb rated line pull makes it suitable for appropriately engineered installations on trucks, large 4WDs and other heavy vehicles where the vehicle, mounting system and electrical system are capable of supporting the loads involved.
Important: Winch rope or cable must be correctly wound onto the drum under load before use. Refer to the supplied winch manual for the correct first-use procedure.
8.9HP Series-Wound Motor
The Stallion uses Sherpa's 8.9HP series-wound electric motor, available in both 12V and 24V configurations.
The motor and gearbox combination is designed to provide the torque required for high-load recovery work while retaining compact vehicle-mounted packaging.
Heavy-Duty 3-Stage Planetary Gearbox
A 3-stage planetary gearbox provides the reduction required to convert motor speed into high winching torque.
The Stallion also incorporates upgraded high-load gearbox bushes to suit the forces generated during heavy recovery operation.
Gearbox-Mounted Automatic Brake
The automatic brake is mounted within the gearbox rather than inside the rope drum.
This design helps reduce direct brake heat transfer into the drum, which is particularly relevant when using synthetic winch rope.
316 Stainless Steel Components
Selected fittings and cross members are manufactured from 316 stainless steel to provide corrosion resistance in demanding vehicle and recovery environments.
IP68 Stated Ingress Rating
The Stallion carries a stated IP68 ingress rating when correctly installed and maintained.
The rating should not be treated as a substitute for correct installation, maintenance or inspection after exposure to water, mud or other contaminants.
Synthetic Rope or Steel Cable
Choose between two supplied line configurations:
- Synthetic Rope: 30m × 12mm with a stated 31,000lb Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS), supplied with polished aluminium hawse fairlead.
- Steel Cable: 30m × 12mm with a stated 28,000lb Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS), supplied with 4-roller fairlead.
MBS is a breaking-strength figure and should not be interpreted as a Working Load Limit or as the safe capacity of the complete recovery system.
Genuine Albright Heavy-Duty Contactor
The Stallion is supplied with a genuine Albright International heavy-duty contactor in the winch control box.
The supplied specification states a maximum current capability of up to 800A. Actual winch current draw varies substantially with load and system voltage.

Recommended Winch Accessories
Depending on the installation and intended recovery use, accessories such as a winch damper, battery isolation switch and wireless remote may be useful.
A winch damper is recommended as an additional safety measure during recovery operations. A suitably rated battery isolation switch can also provide a convenient means of isolating winch power when the system is not in use.
See the Sherpa 4WD Accessories range for compatible accessories.

Stallion Winch Installation – Dodge Ram
Installation & Electrical Requirements
A 25,000lb electric winch places substantial loads on both the vehicle structure and electrical system.
Before installation, confirm the following are appropriately sized and rated:
- Winch mounting structure
- Mounting fasteners
- Vehicle battery system
- Charging system
- Power and earth cabling
- Electrical isolation and protection
- Recovery points and connecting equipment
The supplied performance data shows current draw of up to approximately 400A on the 12V model and 210A on the 24V model at the stated 25,000lb load point.
The Stallion is an intermittent-duty winch. Observe the operating and cooling requirements in the Sherpa instructions and do not treat the winch as continuous-duty equipment.
Always keep people clear of the tensioned winch line and potential recoil path during recovery.
