Description
These petrol engine driven gear pumps combine a positive displacement gear pump with a Honda petrol engine and belt drive system on a complete mounted assembly. Available in a range of pump sizes and engine configurations, they are suited to transferring clean, non-abrasive fluids including oils, diesel, kerosene and other compatible liquids.
Note: These pump assemblies are built to order. Please contact Scintex to confirm current pricing and availability before ordering.
Petrol Engine Driven Gear Pumps – Honda Powered
These engine-driven positive displacement gear pumps provide a self-contained pumping solution for applications where mains electrical power is unavailable or a portable petrol-powered system is preferred.
The range combines gear pumps with Honda petrol engines and reduction belt drives to achieve the relatively low pump speeds required for efficient gear pump operation.
Typical Applications
Gear pumps are suited to transferring a wide range of compatible, clean and non-abrasive liquids. Typical applications can include:
- Oil and lubricant transfer
- Transformer oils
- Heating oils
- Diesel
- Kerosene
- Tallow
- Printing inks
- Bitumen emulsions
- Fertiliser liquids
- Jelly-type products
- Process liquid transfer
- Lubrication systems
- Pressure boosting applications
Important: Fluid compatibility should be confirmed before use. Liquids must be clean and free from suspended abrasive particles.

Gear Pump Performance
Published performance curves are based on a liquid with a kinematic viscosity of 1mm²/s and density of 1000kg/m³ at 20°C. Actual pump performance will vary with pump model, operating speed, liquid viscosity, system pressure and installation.
- Flow rates up to 27m³/h across the gear pump range
- Heads up to 30m
- Maximum fluid temperature: +60°C
- Maximum ambient temperature: +60°C
- Nominal gear pump speed: approximately 400rpm
- Recommended maximum gear pump speed: 600rpm
- Liquids must be clean and free from suspended abrasive particles
The individual engine-driven models use reduction belt drives to operate the pumps at the speeds shown in the model table above.
High-Viscosity Liquids
Gear pump speed should generally be reduced when transferring high-viscosity liquids. For applications such as molasses, the recommended pump speed is approximately 200rpm.

Positive Displacement Gear Pump
These pumps use a positive displacement gear design and are suited to low and medium pressure liquid transfer applications.
The blind plain bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid, while the stuffing box incorporates gland packing and a grease-lubricated bearing arrangement.
The gear pump itself can operate in either direction, allowing the direction of liquid transfer to be reversed where the drive and installation configuration permits.
Installation
Engine-driven pump assemblies must be installed on a secure, horizontal mounting surface. Bolt the complete assembly firmly into position and ensure the suction and discharge plumbing is correctly connected for the intended direction of flow.
Check that the V-belts are correctly aligned and tensioned before operation.
If the system can operate against a closed discharge, an appropriately selected pressure relief or bypass valve must be installed to prevent excessive pressure developing within the positive displacement pump and pipework.
Before starting, prime the pump with the liquid being transferred and initially operate with the discharge fully open before adjusting the system to the required operating conditions.
Do not run the gear pump dry. The pump relies on the transferred liquid for lubrication, and dry operation can cause rapid wear or pump damage.

Important Selection Information
Gear pump performance and suitability depend heavily on the characteristics of the liquid being pumped. Consider viscosity, temperature, chemical compatibility, required flow, discharge pressure and suction conditions when selecting a pump.
These pumps are intended for clean, non-abrasive liquids. Do not use with liquids containing suspended abrasive solids unless the pump has specifically been confirmed as suitable for the application.
