Deep Well Water Level Sensor – 4–20mA, 50m & 100m Range
Description
The Scintex Deep Well Water Level Sensor is a submersible hydrostatic pressure transmitter designed for measuring water level in wells, bores, tanks and other deep liquid applications.
The sensor is lowered below the water surface where it measures the hydrostatic pressure created by the liquid above it. This pressure is converted to a 4–20mA output signal, which can then be displayed or used for pump and alarm control through a compatible level controller.
Submersible Deep Well Water Level Sensor
This sensor provides a simple and reliable way to monitor liquid level in wells and bores without using floats or other moving components.
Once installed below the water surface, the sensor measures gauge pressure. The greater the depth of water above the sensor, the greater the measured pressure. A compatible display or controller can then scale the 4–20mA signal into a corresponding liquid level.

How Hydrostatic Level Measurement Works
Hydrostatic level measurement uses the pressure created by the column of liquid above the sensor.
The sensor is installed below the lowest expected water level. As the water level rises or falls, the pressure measured by the sensor changes accordingly.
The transmitter converts this pressure into a proportional 4–20mA electrical signal. A compatible display, PLC or level controller can then convert that signal into metres of water level or use it for control functions.
50m & 100m Range Options
Two sensor ranges are available:
- 0–50m water level range with 60m cable
- 0–100m water level range with 110m cable
Select a measurement range that suits the expected maximum water column above the sensor.
Compatible Level Display & Controller
When connected to a compatible digital level display controller, the sensor signal can be displayed as liquid level.
The controller can also be used in suitable systems to trigger alarms or external relays at selected level points, allowing functions such as:
- High-level alarms
- Low-level alarms
- Pump start control
- Pump stop control
- Dry-run protection strategies

316L Stainless Steel Construction
The sensing element is housed in 316L stainless steel, providing a robust construction for compatible water and liquid-level applications.
With no moving floats, arms or switches, the sensor is well suited to installations where mechanical components may be difficult to access or maintain.
Typical Applications
- Deep water wells
- Bore water monitoring
- Groundwater level measurement
- Water storage tanks
- Remote water systems
- Pump control systems
- Sewage station level monitoring where material compatibility is suitable
- General liquid-level measurement

Installation Considerations
Install the sensor below the minimum expected water level while keeping it clear of sediment, sludge and the bore or tank floor where practical.
The sensor cable should be supported so the transmitter is not suspended solely by electrical connections or exposed to unnecessary mechanical strain.
Because the sensor measures pressure rather than level directly, the connected display or controller must be correctly scaled to the selected sensor range.
For fluids other than clean water, confirm compatibility with the 316L stainless steel housing, cable and other wetted materials before installation.
