Manufactured with a high diamond concentration and tapered grinding segments, these discs are suitable for a range of concrete grinders including Paddock, Floorex and compatible machines.

Professional Concrete Grinding Discs
Paddock has developed this range of 250mm grinding discs to provide a balance of cutting performance, service life and value.
The metal bond diamond segments feature a tapered profile which is thicker towards the outside of the disc. This design takes advantage of the greater surface speed at the outer diameter of the wheel and helps provide consistent wear over the life of the disc.
Integrated cooling cut-outs assist heat dissipation during demanding grinding applications and allow the discs to operate effectively under higher loads.

Choosing the Correct Concrete Grinding Disc
Concrete varies considerably in hardness, abrasiveness, age and surface condition. There is therefore no single disc which will provide the best result on every floor.
Disc selection is generally based on three main factors:
- Bond hardness
- Number of grinding segments
- Diamond grit
For professional surface preparation work it is useful to have several disc options available so the combination can be adjusted according to the actual floor conditions.
Hard Bond vs Soft Bond
The bond is the metal matrix which holds the diamond particles in the grinding segment.
The correct bond is largely determined by the hardness and abrasiveness of the concrete.
Hard concrete generally requires a softer bond.
Hard concrete typically produces relatively fine, less abrasive dust. A soft bond wears away more readily, continually exposing fresh diamond particles so the disc continues cutting effectively.
If a disc is glazing, generating excessive heat or cutting very slowly on hard concrete, moving to a softer bond may improve performance.
Softer or more abrasive concrete generally requires a harder bond.
Soft concrete produces more abrasive dust which can quickly wear away a soft metal bond. A harder bond helps retain the diamonds for longer and reduces unnecessary disc wear.
If a disc is wearing excessively fast, moving to a harder bond may extend disc life.

Choosing the Number of Segments
The number of segments affects both the contact pressure and the finish produced by the disc.
Fewer segments concentrate the machine weight over a smaller contact area. This increases grinding pressure at each segment and can provide a more aggressive cut.
More segments spread the load across a larger contact area. This generally produces smoother grinding and can reduce the wear rate of each individual segment.
3 Segment Discs
Three-segment discs are particularly useful for removing coatings, adhesives, glues and other surface materials.
The lower number of contact points produces greater pressure at each segment and helps the disc maintain contact while travelling across uneven surfaces.
6 or More Segment Discs
For general concrete grinding, levelling and preparation, discs with six or more segments are normally preferred.
If grinding performance is too slow, moving to a disc with fewer segments can increase the pressure on each segment and improve cutting performance.
If disc wear is excessive, moving to a disc with more segments can spread the load across a greater surface area and may improve service life.
Selecting the Correct Grit
Diamond grit describes the coarseness of the abrasive. A lower grit number produces a more aggressive cut, while a higher grit number produces a finer surface.

A common concrete floor preparation process may begin at approximately 30 grit, progress through 80 grit and finish using 150 grit depending on the required finish.
For surfaces requiring a high-sheen polished finish, metal bond grinding is normally followed by increasingly fine resin polishing pads.
Typical Starting Disc Selection
The following is a useful starting guide only. Concrete conditions should always determine the final disc choice.
Coating, glue or adhesive removal:
- 3 segment disc
- Coarse grit
- Bond selected according to concrete hardness
General floor preparation:
- 6 or more segments
- 30 grit starting point for many applications
- Progress to 80 grit
- Optional 150 grit finishing stage
Fine polishing:
- Complete the metal bond grinding stages first
- Move to resin polishing pads
- Progress through finer grits depending on the required finish

Resin Polishing Pads & Pad Drivers
Once the metal-bond grinding stages are complete, Paddock also offers resin polishing pads for progressively refining and polishing the concrete surface.
Round resin polishing pads are available in a range of sizes and grits from approximately 50# through to 5000#.
The pads are attached to compatible grinders using Velcro pad drivers.

Concrete grinding can generate hazardous respirable crystalline silica dust. Appropriate dust-control measures must be used whenever concrete is ground, cut or polished.
